PCSO's Update
Written by Rob Gordon
Friday, 25 June 2010
This week I have been into Fen Drayton Primary School to give a talk on road safety which was lots of fun getting the children involved and teaching them to stop, look and listen!

I also carried out speed checks in Fen Drayton today and found four drivers to be exceeding 35mph in an half hour period at school finishing time, please do keep an eye on your speed especially as there are young children out and about.

I would also like to ask you to be on the look out as we have identified a stolen vehicle that was abandoned in Elsworth it was stolen from out of our area however the thought is that high value vehicles are being targeted so please do make sure your vehicles are kept secure and no valuables are left on show.

Finally I have been putting out our panel priority posters so if you do have any concerns relating to these matters or anything which you feel may need my attention please do let me (PCSO Kerrie Macinnes) know by contacting 0345 456 456 4.

Car Park Distraction Thefts
Written by Rob Gordon
Thursday, 03 June 2010
Thefts by distraction at supermarket car parks may be starting up again. One theft and one suspicious incident was reported yesterday! Callous thieves are preying on the good nature of people to help out their fellow citizens by distracting them allowing accomplices to steal credit cards and in some cases, then
making cash withdrawals.

You will see from the below summaries common themes exist. Use of maps, asking directions and mentioning hospitals are frequent. We have had a number of offences in this division and the latest occurred yesterday in Fulbourn and Milton. Similar offences have happened elsewhere in the county and also in neighbouring counties.

19/03/2010 - Morrisons, Cambourne
Lady paid for shopping with card and then whilst reversing out of the car park, a small silver car blocked her in. The driver was waving a map about and saying 'hospital, hospital'. She got out to speak to him and subsequently found her card stolen which was then used to withdraw cash.

20/03/2010 - Tescos, Fulbourn
Two persons of Eastern European appearance have asked the aggrieved for help reading a map as she was loading her shopping into her car. Later found her purse missing from her bag on the front seat and attempts had been made to use her card in East London. Old style red or orange car used by offenders.

13/04/2010 - Tescos, Milton
Female approached whilst loading car by male of Eastern European appearance asking for directions to the hospital. Card later discovered missing and had been used to withdraw cash and for transactions in London.

29/04/2010 - Tescos, Fulbourn
After making purchases and returning to his car where he was approached by a female stating she had broken down and did he know of any taxi companies. She reached down to pick up a £5 stating that it must be his and he has taken his wallet from his pocket to replace the note. He later found his debit card missing which had already been used to withdraw £300.

14/05/2010 - Tescos, Bar Hill
Female described two Asian males in the queue with her acting suspiciously. Whilst loading her shopping, she was distracted by a male who pulled up behind her and asked for help with a map and directions to Leeds. She thinks it may be the same male from the shop. Later discovered her bank card missing from her wallet which was on the front seat. Card had been used several times at Asda in Cambridge as well as in Harlow and Romford.

20/05/2010 - Tescos, Bar Hill
Female loading her car was distracted by 'foreign sounding' male in a silver R reg vehicle asking for directions and help with a map. Later found cash and an old card missing from her purse which had been in the car.

01/06/2010 - Tescos, Fulbourn
Female just returned to her car and put her hand bag on front passenger seat. A man as described of Asian appearance and driving a black car drew up alongside. He had a map on his knees and asked directions to Harlow. Whilst trying to help him her vehicle was entered and credit card stolen from handbag.

01/06/2010 - Tescos, Milton
Lady found her car blocked by a beige car. Two male occupants said they would not move until she gave them directions. Lady refused to get out of her car until they moved.

Please pass this information on to your members and help to prevent further incidents. If you see any suspicious activity occurring in supermarket car parks please ring 999 straight away.

PCSO's Update

Well this week I attended the annual Parish meeting at Papworth, those who attended it was very nice to meet some new faces!

I also visited Elsworth Primary School yesterday - they were holding a museum day whereby the children each have an item from the past and they explain a little bit about it to you as you wander around the 'museum'. It was a lovely visit and all of the children were very keen to tell me about their exhibits!

Last weekend was a very warm one and unfortunately as expected we had a few people jumping in the lakes at the Nature Reserve in Fen Drayton - this is strictly not permitted and very unsafe! I am working with Andy Coton and Niel Renwick from the Nature Reserve as well as PC Claire Reeve to tackle this and perhaps hold a few action days over the summer months to tackle this behaviour as well as the anti-social use of vehicles up there, I will let you know of the dates once they are confirmed.

Not only has the Nature reserve come to my attention for the above reasons but also for vehicle crime - the one (and only) crime that has been recorded this past week in our villages is an incident that happened at the Nature Reserve whereby a ladies handbag was stolen from a parked car whilst the aggrieved was out and about around the nature reserve. Could I please stress the importance of not leaving your belongings on display in your vehicle, or even under the seat/glove box etc. I have some great signs and notices which you can put in your car to state that your vehicle has been emptied of valuables so please just reply to this e-cops message if you would like one or come along to one of my surgeries next month - I will let you know of the dates and locations once they have been confirmed.

Again I am looking for volunteers interested in Neighbourhood Watch or Speedwatch in our villages, please do let me know if you would like more information on either of these groups and I will happily provide it.

As the summer months are approaching there are fetes and events in so many villages over South Cambs if there are any upcoming events or groups in our villages which you would like me to pop along to please let me know as I would be more than happy to.
