This week there has been one dwelling burglary on a farm at Lattenbury Hill on the A1198 past Graveley. This was an unoccupied property however a woodburner and water cylinder was stolen.
There has also been an incident of suspicious circumstances in Elsworth in which a footprint has been found on a side gate into a property which suggests that unknown persons have perhaps tried to gain entry through the gate. Please do keep on the look-out for vehicles or persons acting in a suspicious manner or those that seem to be sussing out areas. Last week a lady from Elsworth called in to say that a blue transit van was driving slowly around the village doing several laps as if it was checking out houses - this is a great example of suspicious circumstances to call in. Please call up on 0345 456 456 4 or 999 in an emergency.
I also carried out a speedcheck on Smith Street in Elsworth on Tuesday this week from 17.10 - 17.40 and there were no vehicles speeding through the village which is very good to see!
I am also keeping an eye on School Lane in Connington as I understand there is obstructive parking going on with cars being parked opposite each other near the post box in the evenings. Please be aware that although you may be able to squeeze your car through, enough room needs to be left for an emergency vehicle such as a fire engine or ambulance to pass.
Finally I am aware that Pendrill Court in Papworth is often used by many young people as a place to hang out in the evenings and at weekends. It has been brought to my attention that there have been some problems in the area as a result of this. If you are affected by this please do contact me so I can get a good idea as to the scale of the problem.
I am holding a police surgery next week on Friday 30th April from 15.00pm - 16.00pm at Fen Drayton Primary School. Please do not hesitate to pop along, it would be great to see you there! |

Two burglars have admitted a total of 75 crimes at Cambridge Crown Court.
Neil Wiseman, 27, who has spent quite a bit of time now remanded in custody at HMP Peterborough, was sentenced for two burglaries, one count of handling stolen goods and one attempted burglary. He also asked the court to take into consideration a further 55 crimes - 51 of those relate to Cambridgeshire and four relate to offences committed in Suffolk. He was sentenced to three years imprisonment.
John Launbas, 22 of Suez Road, Cambridge was sentenced for one burglary and admitted a further 14 dwelling burglaries and one non-dwelling burglary. He was sentenced to 21 months' imprisonment.
Detective Chief Inspector Chris Mead has been speaking to the local media about this huge number of crimes which have been cleared up. It is because we have officers who work closely with defendants that both Neil Wiseman and John Launbas decided to wipe the slate clean and admit a huge number of crimes. For the victims, this means they can have closure knowing the person who committed their offence is in prison and hopefully this will give them some sense of justice.
In both of these cases the offenders committed these crimes to fund an out of control drug addiction. A repeated theme noticed by officers here is the use of garden implements such as spades and forks taken from garden sheds at the burgled property or a nearby shed which is why we always recommend to residents to ensure their outbuildings are locked and secure.
Wiseman has asked for his crimes to be taken into consideration. As well as the 51 crimes mentioned below, there were a further four from Suffolk. Of these 51 crimes, 32 were burglaries, 1 was for a non-dwelling burglary, 9 were attempted burglaries and 9 were thefts, most relating to thefts of lead.
In the Swavesey Panel there was 1 offence in Girton. There were also 21 offences committed across other panel areas in South Cambridgeshire, 2 offences committed in East Cambridgeshire and 27 offences committed in Cambridge City.
Launbas has also asked for his crimes to be taken into consideration. 14 are dwelling burglaries and 1 is a shed burglary. All of these offences took place in the East area of Cambridge City. |

Twelve residents have 'phoned the police after receiving a call from a company advising them that they are due a refund of bank charges in the region of £600. The caller then proceeds to ask for personal information including bank details and the date of birth of the householder. The phone number of the company is usually withheld and when challenged, the caller hangs up.
Kate Kent, crime reduction manager, said: "Genuine companies offering to assist with refunds of bank charges will be regulated by the Ministry of Justice. "Their companies will not cold call you and ask you to provide personal details over the phone. "If you receive a call of this nature I would strongly advise you to hang up and not to give any information out. Like other scams, if the offer sounds too good to be true then it usually is." |
