Just a quick email to ask if there are any emerging concerns in the village? I am always happy to help if there is anything you feel may need my attention, please do not hesitate to contact me or if you would like to meet up for a coffee to discuss anything please do let me know.
Yesterday we had a few Nottingham Knockers in Elsworth and Boxworth which is something I am keen to keep an eye on, we did catch up with all of them but please do let me know if you see them about in any of our villages.
This month we have had one distraction burglary in Papworth who stated he was collecting for charity as a means to enter the property. This is the only burglary this month which is a marked reduction from the 9 burglaries in February. I am pleased to say that in recent weeks we have arrested and charged three prolific offenders known to commit burglaries.
We have had a few thefts at Papworth Hospital which we are taking action to tackle, our Crime Prevention Team are going out to survey the hospital and I am now holding regular surgeries there to speak to staff and villagers.
With regards to the parking outside of Papworth Hospital I have spoken to Elizabeth Hall Director of HR at the hospital who states they are still hoping for Highways to put down double yellow lines in the next few months, she is pursuing this issue. I have noticed my cones are constantly moved, i initially placed 12 along this stretch, 3 were then stolen after 1 weekend but the remaining 8 seemed to be relieving the problem of parking to close to the hospital junctions however these were frequently moved (an offence in itself) and now it appears they have gone completely as I am sure you can understand my sergeant is now reluctant to supply me with any more.
There has also been an oil theft in Graveley. I did send out an e-cops message earlier this month about fuel thefts advising the following; - It’s a good idea to plant prickly shrubs to hide your tank from view. Thieves will not want to force their way through or over a prickly hedge. Traces of blood or a shred of ripped clothing could help the police to identify the offender. - Be aware of your oil levels and check frequently. - If you have a plastic tank, consider erecting fencing around the tank with one end hinged and locked for filling purposes. The fencing should be fixed to solid posts and should be set off the tank approx 12 inches on all sides. - If you have a steel tank, then fit a quality anti cut closed shackle padlock. - If you have outside security lighting, then please ensure that the system works and that the light sensors have been adjusted correctly to detect movement. - Deter thieves from entering your property by installing and using lockable gates. Maintain boundaries and perimeter fencing. It is not a frequent occurrence but i thought it prudent to offer this advice.
I have been carrying out regular speedchecks on Cootes Lane Fen Drayton, Smith Street in Elsworth and Ermine Street in Papworth. If there are any specific areas and times which you feel need my attention with regards to speedchecks please do let me know. I am limited to areas with a maximum of a 40mph limit and it has to be in daylight hours, I cannot carry them out in darkness however I can of course refer areas to our Traffic team if there are any areas of specific concern.
I have been doing a fair bit of foot patrol in many of our villages so hopefully you will have seen me about. If not let me know and I will make an effort to visit you!
I am aware of a few individuals using vehicles to commit Anti-Social behaviour in Fen Drayton. They have been warned so please let me know if you become aware of any further nuisance by calling it in at the time to 0345 456 456 4 or 999 in an emergency.
Again if there are any upcoming events or meetings please let me know and I will do my best to attend. |

"Able to be independent" is a new group which has started up. The group is for people with disabilities, adult and young carers, people wanting support & guidance. The group meets in Orchard Park community centre, Cambridge on the first Wednesday of the month at 10am for tea and a chat.
