			<title>PCSO's Update</title>
			<link>http://graveleyvillage.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=172&amp;Itemid=31</link>
<description>This week there have been two crimes reported. Damage to locks at a business premises, Stirling Way in Papworth and the theft of a number-plate from a vehicle outside an address in Middleton Way in Fen Drayton.

I have been out and about this week on foot and in the car. Yesterday I visited the Children’s Play Centre at Papworth which was great fun!

I am really trying to promote both Speed Watch and Neighbourhood Watch at the moment - so if anyone is interested please do let me know.

GOOD NEWS - After months of working together to put this in place I have been told by Papworth Hospital that the double yellow lines covering the junction entrances will be put in place by the first week in September. This is great to hear and will hopefully put a stop to the obstructive parking by the junctions in this area.

I have issued further tickets along the stretch of road outside Papworth Hospital and have issued warning notices to two cars parked too close to the junction down Elm Way - please do bear in mind where you park - I am keeping a log of those parked too close to this junction and will issue tickets to persistent offenders.

We have conducted a further speed check on Cootes Lane, Fen Drayton and three fixed penalty tickets for excess speed were issued. I am off out again today to carry out more speed-checks so please do watch your speed! I will let you know how I get on.

I am still working on the Park Watch scheme for Fen Drayton Nature Reserve and I have even had people reply to my e-cops to say they would like to be involved which is great news! We are looking to hold an open day to launch the scheme so I will keep you updated!

I have had another report of quad bikes, mini-moto and mopeds being used around the South Park Drive area of Papworth. In order for people to ride like this if on a public road they need to be displaying a number plate, be fully insured, taxed and wearing a helmet. If they are driving on fields, they need permission of the land owner, insurance and to be wearing a helmet. I am taking action to tackle this however please do let me know if you are affected by this and have witnessed any offences.

Anyone with information should contact police on 0345 456 456 4 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

			<title>Independent Custody Visitor</title>
			<link>http://graveleyvillage.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=171&amp;Itemid=31</link>
			<description>Are you COMMUNITY SPIRITED?

Have you some TIME TO SPARE?

Are you OPEN MINDED, OBJECTIVE AND IMPARTIAL?

Are you DISCREET?

If you can answer yes to these questions, would you like to become an Independent Custody Visitor?

Cambridgeshire Police Authority is looking for people to join its Custody Visitor Panels. The Panels are independent of the police and their role is to make unannounced visits to police stations in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough to observe and report to the Police Authority about the conditions under which people detained to assist police with their enquiries are being held. The work of the visitors is vital in order to ensure that detainees’ rights are being respected and that they are being treated properly.

Independent Custody Visitors are unpaid, but allowances are payable to cover expenses incurred. The time commitment required of Visitors is not onerous (3 to 4 hours a month) and training will be given to successful applicants.

of the Custody Visiting Scheme, persons with connections with the Criminal Justice System (e.g. police, courts, prisons service, etc.) cannot be considered.

INTERESTED? Then please get in touch with us.

Application forms and further information is available from the Police Authority Office at:

<description>We wanted to let you know about an incident involving the police helicopter last Wednesday night in case you wondered what was going on.

Police made arrests after the force helicopter spotted men behaving suspiciously beside the A14.

The helicopter reported two men hiding in a hedgerow near a lay-by on the eastbound cariageway at Swavesey at just before 0100 on 12 August.

The men got into a car and drove off at speed towards Godmanchester but stopped near Huntingdon.

Two men were arrested on suspicion of theft a short while later.

A few minutes later the helicopter spotted two more men hiding underneath a van back at the same lay-by at Swavesey.

Officers on the ground attended the scene and two men were arrested.

All the men were arrested on suspicion of theft of diesel and were taken to Parkside Police Station.

<description>Earlier last week there were several instances of unlicensed door to door salesmen, with large bags selling dusters, picture frames, T-towels and cheap cleaning products etc. We came across one in Fen Drayton. They were carrying laminated cards saying 'Keep Britain Working' - as genuine as this may seem this is not a pedlars licence which is what is required to sell door to door. If you do see similar activity taking place please call it in on 0345 456 456 4.

I have been on a joint patrol with Julie Bristow a youth support worker for Papworth last week. We are looking to work together to encourage the older children in Papworth to come and use their facilities at the youth club and improve relations between this group and ourselves. They are in the process of relocating at the moment so hopefully the opening of a new venue will help with this.

I have also met with the RSPB at Fen Drayton Nature Reserve - I have discussed the idea of setting up a Parkwatch Scheme with them. This would mean that friends of the Nature Reserve and regular users would have the opportunity to register to this scheme which operates similarly to a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme but it would mean that whilst enjoying the nature reserve they would also be out on patrol of sorts and keeping an eye peeled for suspicious activity, anti-social use of vehicles, groups of people camping/swimming. This scheme would fomalise what already exists as people do already do keep an eye out and contact us if they see anything but it would give clear direction on what to do / who to contact in many different scenarios. I am now working with the RSPB to set this up. I am in the initial stages of set up at the moment but I will keep you updated as the scheme progresses</description>

			<title>CID Update</title>
			<link>http://graveleyvillage.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=168&amp;Itemid=31</link>
<description>·Ely neighbourhood team, along with reactive officers, responded to a call from a member of the public who was watching two young men walking around acting suspiciously knocking on doors and called the police. On arrival of the police they both decided to do a runner and eventually after some frantic chasing, garden hopping, area search and containment (lasting nearly an hour) they were both caught. To cut a very long story short a number of pieces of jewellery were found in one of the men’s possession which came from burglaries. A search revealed yet more jewellery in his bedroom which was linked to burglaries. Both men have subsequently been charged with burglary and are going through the court process.

·Two relatively unknown individuals decide to go committing car crime in the East Cambs area and are disturbed breaking into cars in Wilburton. Excellent work by Ely neighbourhood team and reactive officers for flooding the area and finding the vehicle in Witchford using the skills of the helicopter. Both men were arrested and subsequently charged with three thefts from cars.

·An operation to focus on offenders from East Cambs and South Cambs continues, targeting those committing burglaries, theft of motor vehicles and theft from motor vehicles across South Cambs, East Cambs and Cambridge city, Bedfordshire and British Transport Police property (railway station car parks). A joint warrant with Bedfordshire police on a property in Bedfordshire led to the recovery of four shotguns hidden in a bush on an empty caravan plot. One of these shotguns had been sawn off.
Also recovered hidden was an amount of jewellery. The shotguns and jewellery are suspected to have come from burglaries in Cambridgeshire. A 15 year old boy was arrested and is currently on bail.

·A man was caught burgling a ground floor flat in College grounds, he was charged and remanded.

·A man has been charged with a burglary in Fen Ditton and three thefts from Abbey Meadows School and The Fields Early Learning Centre. He was also charged with possession with intent to supply as he had a small quantity of Cannabis on him, debt sheet and text messages indicating previous supply. He is currently remanded in custody.

·Four people have been arrested and bailed in connection with a robbery which happened on Parkers Piece a few weeks back. Two groups all out enjoying themselves and beer is stolen from one group by the other group using force.

·A 16-year-old and a 15-year-old boy have been charged with two burglaries, dangerous driving and using stolen property. This follows an attempt burglary in Fordham and a police chase into the city. Both boys have been remanded in custody.
